"God bless us, every one."

This Christmas and through the coming new year.

2001

Dear family and friends,

As I pause to compose this year’s letter to you, I struggle with the year that was; words aren’t coming easily.

So much has been lost by so many, and yet the survivors remind us, not of what they’ve lost, but of the bountiful blessings that remain.

Christmas is our celebration of a baby born 2000 years ago; who lived to teach us to love one another; and who died to save us from our own sinful nature.

And on September 11th, 5000 of our brothers and sisters from our country and elsewhere died, also to save us. Their heroic sacrifice has awakened us to a hidden menace that is now being dealt with by our leaders and courageous military, to make the world a safer place for our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. God bless America! What a glorious gift a safer, more God-fearing world will be! This very well may be the best Christmas ever!

St. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:13 to have faith, hope and love, "but the greatest of these is love." In this very special season of giving, perhaps the very best gift to be offered is hope and encouragement, given in the true spirit of Christmas and love. Let’s each strive to find just one person whose life we can brighten by sharing our own faith, hope, and love this Christmas.

Our family has been richly blessed this year. None of us were lost on September 11th. We’ve had no serious illnesses, accidents, or other unfortunate circumstances thrust upon us. Robin & Kevin had a serious accident in Pennsylvania this summer that totaled their car, but miraculously spared their entire family from serious injury. Oh, do we ever feel blessed!

Our businesses are doing well, we got another Honda, and have done some major work on our house. Midge still enjoys her job at Bard College, and Dan still enjoys technical writing and consulting.

We’re most excited, however, by the imminent arrival of Baby Stott. Clint and Shelly are expecting their first, to arrive around January 31st. We have two granddaughters in Denver who we love very much, but Baby Stott will be our first infant grandchild who we can hold, burp, play with, and give back to Mom and Dad when we’re through. Woohoo!

Our New Year’s resolution is to keep in touch with you better in 2002. We realize now, more than ever, how much you mean to us. Together we are a network of loving people, each with unique gifts and talents, and by helping each other, we can make our world a better place. Dan’s email is danstott@email.com and Midge’s is stott@bard.edu. Please let us hear from you too.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, with a ton of love!!!
With all the love of the season, Dan & Midge
